nhs service changes mandfield dentist

Changes to NHS Services

As of August 2021 we will be relinquishing our NHS Contract for children under 18 years old. We can no longer work under the NHS contract and continue to provide the level of care we pride ourselves on. Simon has been subsidising the NHS contract for some years, regrettably we can no longer continue to do this.

We have carefully been looking at the best way to continue offering the highest level of care for children under 18. We have decided to offer an affordable monthly membership to help keep on top of your children’s oral health.

We will continue to refer children to the NHS for orthodontic treatment and NHS hospital treatments when needed.

0-5 year olds

Children under 5 years of age can continue to be seen in the practice free of charge if a parent or guardian is registered on our membership scheme. 0-5 year olds will not be covered as per the membership scheme but will be covered for out of hour’s emergencies by the practice. (Please note this does not cover your child for emergency out of hours at another practice if needed)

Children’s membership plan – 6-10 year olds- £5 per month

    • Eligibility to request assistance from the Worldwide Dental Emergency Assistance

Scheme (the Scheme) in the event of a dental trauma and/or dental emergency or oral cancer.

The Scheme provides the following benefits for our 6-17 year old patients:
  • Eligibility to request assistance out of hours, after 6pm weekdays and all day Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday, whether you attend your own practice if open or another practice
  • Eligibility to request assistance if you are more than 15 miles from your practice and your child suffers a dental emergency during surgery hours
  • Eligibility to request assistance if your child suffers a dental emergency overseas
  • Eligibility to request assistance in the event of the payors redundancy, paying your monthly dental plan fees for up to 12 months and ensuring that you keep your child’s registration with us despite your circumstances (compulsory redundancy to employed plan holders only)
  • Upon diagnosis of oral cancer, the Scheme may pay a fixed benefit of £2,500 to you.
  • Eligibility to request assistance for external dental trauma including implants where deemed clinically necessary.

All plans will start from August 2021, we can sign the children up via the online link or via post.  If you’d rather have your child come as a private patient this wouldn’t be a problem, for 6-10 year olds the examination fee would be £30, for 11-17 year olds the examination fee would be £45.

We hope you can understand this has not been an easy decision for the team at the practice.
