Tooth whitening is an increasingly popular treatment amongst our patients and new patients. You will read lots about tooth whitening in the press and lots of systems that state they are the best. We find that lots of products whiten teeth by drying out the teeth and teeth soon return back to their usual colour.

At Thackeray Dental Care we use a safe, reliable and predictable method utilising the active ingredient hydrogen peroxide. This is the only chemical that has been shown to whiten teeth and we use a 10% Carbamide Peroxide from Boutique which then releases hydrogen peroxide as it’s active ingredient.

Some practices use laser in surgery whitening and research has shown that this is no more effective than tray whitening and because of the time needed within the practice it is a much more expensive system. We have therefore chosen Boutique Tray Whitening as our preferred method of whitening.

Once you have been assessed for whitening we will arrange a visit to the dental hygienist for a polish and brighten and then we will take impressions of your teeth. From these impressions we will construct custom made whitening trays for you. At fit we will explain how to use the gels and we generally advise application for 3 hours per day, either overnight or during the evening, whichever suits you.

You will see results straight away and we recommend an initial treatment time of  7-10 days to get the results you want. We find our patients like to top up their whitening every couple of months or so and with this system this is possible, your trays will go on to serve you well for some time if you look after them.
